Other Possible MBTA Expansions

Some other possible mbta expansions I've been thinking about since writing about possible red line extensions:

1. Extend the green line from lechmere to west medford along the lowell line commuter rail -- already in the works

2. Extend the green line to waltham via belmont, alewife, porter, and union square along the fitchburg line (with a short bit underground at alewife and another bit along the old fitchburg cutoff) -- only planned as far as union square

3. Extend the red line from alewife to arlington center under the minuteman trail

4. Extend the red line from alewife to watertown square under the watertown branch

5. Possibly extend (4) from watertown to waltham, but (2) is probably better

6. Extend the blue line from bowdoin to charles/mgh to meet the red line -- planned

7. Convert the D line to heavy rail as an extension of the blue line by extending the blue line from (6) to kenmore along beacon st. This would take some pressure off the main green line downtown.

8. Branch the blue line at kenmore and run along the pike to riverside

9. Extend the D line to needham junction
